Tuesdays @ 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall

20 Sessions – January 8 through May 21

Beginning in January I’d like to bring the unique character of The Revelation to John to life! What a crazy work of art. Revelation is a unique example of a genre of literature known as Apocalyptic. I call it God’s own Science Fiction/Fantasy! 4 percent of the Holy Scriptures are written in this fantastical style, so God MUST have had a purpose for it, right? But what? Why did God entrust ultimate TRUTH to such a fanciful style of writing by a guy who lived as a hermit for a LONG, LONG time? Old Testament scholar, Walter Kaiser, says this; “The preparation of the authors was just as significant a work of God as was the revelation that came from God.  Thus, each writer was given experiences, cultural settings, a range of vocabulary, and special idiosyncrasies so that they would express themselves in styles absolutely their own but with the end result being precisely what God wanted for each section of his revelation.” (Preaching & Teaching from the Old Testament, p. 16) God made us different – so God created different styles of writing that would speak to us differently, but would retain the same TRUTH across the board: history, letters, poetry, prophecy/preaching, apocalypse, etc. How cool is that! For a ballpark count, email me at if you’re interested in this study.
